Debi Starnes has spent more than 25 years as president of EMSTAR Research, Inc. When she is not overseeing activities at the research company, Debi Starnes supports a number of Atlanta charities, including the Gateway Center.
With 330 beds, eight unique residential programs, and a dozen on-site partners, Atlanta’s Gateway Center can provide a wide variety of services to those in need. The Gateway Center’s Assessment Program is one of the most popular programs at the facility, as it represents the initial step toward ending homelessness and joining the workforce as an independent, self-reliant individual. The assessment process, which can last between two and four weeks, is mandatory for any Gateway Center client interested in taking advantage of the employment, training and support, or Life Changer Program services.
A strong desire to change one’s life and escape the impediments of homelessness is the primary requirement for individuals entering the assessment program. Candidates for the program must demonstrate a willingness to improve their job skills. A recent negative test for TB is also required, and valid identification from the state of Georgia can also be beneficial.
