A longtime business owner based in Atlanta, Georgia, Debi Starnes is the owner and proprietor of Sugar Magnolia Bed and Breakfast, where she has managed all operations for more than two decades. In the philanthropic sector, Debi Starnes supports Gateway Center Atlanta, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness in the region.
Headquartered at 275 Pryor Street, Gateway Center offers a number of training services for individuals involved in the program. Through its Employment/Training & Support Programs, Gateway Center offers more than 30 beds for clients returning to work after a period of homelessness. The employment training program lasts a total of 90 days, during which time clients learn about financial literacy and budgeting. During their time at Gateway Center, participants have the opportunity to save money for the transition into their own housing.
In addition to the employment program, Gateway Center offers a Resident Assistant and Resident Intern program for individual who wish to take on leadership roles in the Gateway community. Participants in the program become mentors to their fellow citizens, helping them achieve self-sufficiency.
