Atlanta, Georgia resident Debi Starnes owns and operates the Sugar Magnolia Bed and Breakfast. She has been in business for nearly 25 years and has served thousands of guests from near and far. Outside of her work at the bed and breakfast, Debi Starnes supports the Gateway Center in Atlanta.
Gateway Center exists to fill the needs of people from extremely disadvantaged backgrounds in the metro Atlanta community. As the name implies, it serves as a gateway, offering people a safe place to stay while they are connected to appropriate resources for whatever their specific needs may be.
The Center believes that the solution to homelessness lies within each individual, and that people who are supported and cared for in a time of need will eventually be able to find permanent housing on their own. To support them in this endeavor, the Center provides 330 beds to men who are enrolled in programs to advance their position. While staying there, these men will have access to education, referrals, and treatment for substance abuse issues.
