Debi Starnes is founder, majority owner, and managing partner of EMSTAR Research, Inc. located in Atlanta, Georgia. She also owns Sugar Magnolia Bed and Breakfast, in Atlanta. Heavily involved in her community, Debi Starnes sits on the board at the Gateway Center, which is a centralized agency for homelessness in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
Established in July 2005, Gateway Center offers community outreach and therapeutic programs. The organization addresses specific issues of homelessness, including addiction, domestic abuse and unemployment. Those who stay at the center commit to mental health support, job training, and substance-abuse counseling to achieve self-sufficiency.
To celebrate the progress made by the organization during its ten-year anniversary, Gateway Center hosted its Human Clay benefit at the White Oak Kitchen and Cocktails. This cocktail-attired event, which occurred on November 17, 2015, featured food and drinks as well as a live bluegrass band. Attendees also partook in a photo booth and silent auction, which included artwork and Atlanta excursions. With $25 of the ticket price going toward goods and services, the remaining amount went directly to the center and was tax deductible.
